Embracing Transformation: How to recognize and navigate your season of change.

Change is a natural part of our progression…

Navigating through a shift can be demanding, and oftentimes, it goes unnoticed. Change is a natural part of our progression, offering the most rewarding and challenging times in our lives. Here are 7 helpful steps to assist you through this transformative process!

1) Recognizing the season..

There are few signs to take note of when you’re are in a season of change:

  • Major Loss or Endings

  • Feelings of Discomfort

  • Increased Self-Reflection

  • Shift in priorities

  • Increased Emotional Responses

  • Breaking old patterns

  • Increased desire for growth

  • Physical changes

(Note: this is not an extensive list, but are some key indicators that you’re in the midst of a shift!)

2) Accepting and Shifting our mindset…

Embracing and adapting our mindset is crucial when navigating change. During my recent shift, acceptance proved to be a significant challenge, along with the process of letting go. However, recognizing that I had entered a new season of life, with opportunities more aligned with my journey, lifted a significant burden. Key guiding principles to this awakening included:

  • Fostering present moment awareness

  • Practicing self-compassion

  • Embracing a learning mindset

  • Affirmations and Positive self talk

  • and Practicing gratitude

3) Letting go of the Past…

Ahh…the Art of letting go! After a year in therapy, I discovered that our reluctance to let go is often rooted in various factors such as fear of the unknown, emotional attachments, lack of self-awareness, familiarity, and societal expectations. Experiencing these reasons, my struggle to release was causing more harm than good. I was exhausted with holding on. I finally allowed myself to grieve the past and step into the realm of new beginnings. Key principles aiding this part of the journey involved:

  • Practicing mindfulness reflection

  • Embracing release rituals (google has plenty!)

  • Fostering forgiveness

  • Letting go of expectations from others

  • and Embracing change and adaptability

4) Setting Intentions for Change

Now we embark on the phase where we set our plans into action! Reaching this phase signifies that we have embraced the change, made strides in letting go, and are prepared to witness the transformation unfold. It is a potent stage. Setting intentions involves:

  • Visualizing and/or crafting a vision board of you new space

  • Journaling your thoughts and setting small goals

  • Stepping out of your comfort zone and exploring new activities

  • Maintaining an open mind for new opportunities

  • and cultivating gratitude with every step!

Keep in mind that setting intentions is a gradual journey. Practicing gratitude, patience, and honoring your feelings are vital during this time. It's beneficial to recall that, although this marks an advanced stage, you are still navigating the delicate aspects of the process!

5) Cultivating Self-Compassion…

Maintaining self-compassion during your season of change is essential. As we've explored, change brings forth a range of emotions, emphasizing the need to consistently prioritize our well-being during this transformative period. Some beneficial self-care practices while navigating change can involve:

  • Engaging in activities that bring you joy

  • Connecting with supportive individuals

  • Exploring new hobbies

  • Engaging in self-reflection to check in with yourself

  • Granting yourself grace as you navigate the emotional terrain of change

6) Seeking Support and Connection…

We briefly covered this aspect while discussing the cultivation of self-compassion, but it's a crucial element in navigating transformation. During this phase, you might realize that the support you once relied on may no longer be available or suited to your current needs—and that's perfectly fine! This juncture in the process presents an opportunity to forge connections with new individuals better equipped to assist you during this phase of your life. As mentioned earlier, I have personally found therapy to be invaluable, and by immersing myself in spaces aligned with my current self, I've connected with a supportive community.

7) Embracing the Unfolding Journey!

Did I mention, this is the most enriching part? Why? Because it encapsulates the essence of the entire process. All the steps that guided us here, and the one constant was genuinely embracing the journey. Letting go, changing our mindset, practicing self-compassion, seeking support and connection—all are integral aspects of embracing this transformative journey. Realize that not everyone takes on the brave task of embracing it, so when you find yourself here, ready to make a difference in your life, understand that you are stepping into your power of greatness! It doesn't matter how you arrive at this space; what's important is that you've allowed yourself to undergo this journey. It's called a journey for a reason, so remember, it's not about the destination, but the invaluable lessons learned along the way. You've got this!

Utilize these steps in any order in your season of change!
